Zillions of Pieces

Sun Feb 7, 2010, 10:30 PM
Apart from the odd photo, I haven't uploaded a design piece in ages, but I've got well over a dozen pieces I've been working on in the past 3-4 weeks. I'm becoming more particular about the quality of work I upload. Recently I've gone through my gallery and axed a few of my so-so pieces. I've kept a few pieces that in my own opinion are far from mind blowing - for any number of reasons: perhaps there was one particular element in the art that had a redeeming quality to it. Maybe for the irony, or for my own amusement.

Perhaps because it says something about me and where I've come from. Perhaps we should all include at least one piece of our crappiest work in our personal galleries as a reminder of our "humble" beginnings (not that I think I've "made it" in any sense of the word".
Of course this might not be a good idea if your goal here is getting work as a designer.....

I've been doing:
*Heaps of combined vector/raster pieces.
*Much less Photomanipulation.
*Much less image editing.
*Creating a tonne of vector elements/shapes to use in my own work and to share.
*Toying with ideas for a font...... yes.... one day.
*Working on ideas for a corporate identity for my soon-to-be graphic design studio.
*Trying to perfect my lighting, shading, perspective.

  • Mood: Artistic
  • Listening to: It's so quiet when the girls are at school...
  • Reading: Old magazines: actually cutting them up to collage
  • Watching: the pixels on my small, crappy LCD monitor
  • Playing: with thoughts.
  • Eating: yoghurt.... acidophilus-ness
  • Drinking: Coke (as always)

deviantID

I am a self taught
(aside from a very brief stint at TAFE - *refer to [link]) amateur/hobbyist Graphic Artist/Designer/
photo-manipulator.
I would like to be able to make a living out of Graphic Design and spend most of my spare time (when my girls are at school, or asleep) developing my skills and building my portfolio in the hopes of doing this one day.

In the meantime I would be delighted to offered the odd brief, and would be even more delighted to be offered some paid work due to the financial hardship I am experiencing.

I am experienced in the both the use of raster and vector graphic applications, and often like to combine both in my own work.

I am NOT experienced in the following as of yet:
Flash
Motion Graphics/animation
Web Design

I will be venturing into these in the near future.

I aim to eventually complete my Diploma at a more suitable time in my life.

Eccentric, creative, ironic, original, right brained.

Sensitive, peaceful, objective, reasonable and rational with a strong sense of justice.

Passionate and compassionate.

Curious, yet cautious. Wanting to know, willing to learn, trying to improve.
Free thinking. Outside the box.
I endeavour to be true to myself and true to others.

A mother of two beautiful girls.
Music is another passion of mine.
I'm a bass player and started playing in local bands in my home town when I was 16.
I've played in covers bands, originals bands, jam bands, church bands and everything in between. I enjoy playing almost any style and genre, but I was born and bred on old school metal and thrash bands (Maiden, Megadeth, Dream Theater etc)
I'd love to combine my love of music with my love of Graphic Design and have a job doing Album covers, T-shirts, Posters, Logos and Band Merchandise.

Like many others, my interest in Graphic Design began when I was all but 11 or 12 when I began drawing band logos, one day dreaming of being in a band (way before I could actually play an instrument).
I also used to draw the uncoolest looking old school tattoos. I was so metal.

If anyone wants prints of my work, I have higher resolution originals of nearly all my pieces (except a couple which were lost when my old hard drive passed away) available. You need only to ask!
